Beware: This man can be dangerous

HE has been dismissed as a fraud for using blanks in his Russian Roulette show and it has been suggested that he's lost his mystic sheen since Seance.

But it's all nonsense.

Derren Brown never pretended to be anything but an incredibly good trickster - a psychological illusionist is the proper phrase - and went to great lengths to undermine those people in the US who make fortunes out of other people's grief and misery with his show Messiah.

Anyway, whatever your opinion of the way he makes people do the things they do - you have to admire his ability to manipulate.

I mean you couldn't date him, could you? You'd find yourself doing his laundry and enjoying it without understanding why.

He admits he was always a good liar and a "revoltingly charming child" and obviously his first career choice was law but he eventually turned to a better form of trickery.

Just watching him "encouraging" someone to draw an image he has in his head leaves me with a migraine.

How can he look at you and know you only have a smiley face in your head?

Derren Brown is at The Lowry on Monday.

And surprisingly, he's only been on our screens since 1999 when his Mind Control programme aired on Channel 4.

It wasn't all card games and people standing on one leg to look like they were floating (away with you David Blaine!) and proved an immediate success.

Now he's on tour bringing his scary and unique style to the masses and I for one can't wait to see him in action.

But if you hear that I'm washing his underpants with enthusiasm, have a word won't you?
