CONRAD MURRAY: Local sounds
by Conrad Murray7/ 4/2005
THERE are loads of singer songwriters knocking about in
Manchester at the moment, so it takes something decidedly special
to get world-famous local bands I Am Kloot and Elbow to come and
watch one play.
Both bands were in attendance when young Mancunian Liam Frost
played at Club Blowout last Friday.
The sublime singer-songwriter seems sure to make the big time this
year and you can be the first to hear one of his tracks by
downloading the superb If Tonight We Could Only Sleep at
www.blowout.org.uk.
Club Blowout at the Bierkeller tonight (Friday) plays host to
Behind Green Lights and Fear of Music - both these brilliant bands
are expected to go big this year.
Next week (Friday 15) Club Blowout gives a gig to south
Manchester's young heroes Working For a Nuclear Free City.
Also tonight, down the street at the Gardens Hotel, you can check
out The Forest and The VCs in the Gardens Hotel basement at the
excellent Akoustik Anarkhy evening.
The Forest's superb debut single Living Room is released on limited
edition 7-inch on Slogan records - buy it, it's smart.
Akoustik Anarkhy fine label favourites Autokat play at the
inspirational Club Indigo at Car Retro on April 22 with Land
Ahoy.
The night before, you should check out The Vox and The Whyers at
Music Box as part of the High Voltage night.
Finally, this Sunday, Tony Wilson's latest signings, grime lords
Raw-T, play Ampersand. Their ace debut album Realise and Witness is
out now on F4 records.
