Council tax up by three per cent
Adam Derbyshire20/ 2/2008
COUNCIL tax is to rise by almost three per cent in Tameside.
The hike, due to take effect in April, works out at 2.93 per cent — a 2.42 per cent increase plus precepts for police and fire.
I am totally discusted with the rise Tameside so called councillors have implemented on council tax do they think we have bottomless pockets, and now we hear they are putting up parking charges and may be introducing parking meters to sting us for even more money, then they want to give it to charity?,dont they know charity begins at home, also wheres all the money going they collect from recycling, I,m not to sure but I would have thought by doing this our council tax should be going down not up ? silly me forgot about the fat cat salarys. Also its nice to see our police force have nice shiny building around Tameside it a pity we cannot use them to serve the people who have paid for them or would that be to much to ask for , a police force that works outside the 9-5 hrs, they advertise that they are open for, another great waste of tax payers money.Prehaps all these mega paid council managers should have a day when they can get together and come up with some explanation has to were the tax payers money could really be spent, where decent law abiding people will genuinely benifit, Tameside Coucil dont have a clue ? I know why not employ more Tameside patrollers its nice to see them looking in shop windows, and driving around in posh cars paid for once again by usor even better why not employ more people to decide which roads to make one way and greate more traffic problems and longer delays through out Tameside.
p.s
any chance of filling some of the pot holes in or even please please please resurface some roads.

How much of this rise is to cover Tamesides share of the TIF bid consultants, so far £650,000 and this is just the tip of the iceberg accordig to Jolly Roger Jones...

Oldham's council tax rise is zero this year. That was achived with the help of a bigger than ususal grant from the Government. Your story doesn't reveal what Tameside's grant increase was, so no one can really asses whether the 3 per cent rise is justified. All we counc-tax payers know is that it feels as though we're being taken to the cleaners again. Do some digging and give us a properly researched story on Tameside's council tax rise!

According to Councillor Martin Wareing the council budget is "so simple, even a housewife could understand it". Excuse me, but housewives are not simple at all. My mother chose not to work while I was young so that she could give me the best possible upbringing. She did it by choice. I feel disgusted that a LABOUR councillor made such a biggoted and sexist comment.
