Hero hailed for tackling burglar

by Adam Derbyshire
23/ 4/2008

A WOULD-be thief who tried to hoodwink a trusting pair of pensioners got more than she bargained for — when the elderly couple pinned her down and rang police.

Ian Smith, 68, was bitten, scratched and spat on as he grimly hung on to the crook for 15 minutes while partner Joan Lakin, 74, phoned 999.

I hope your are right there AD, all too often the local press fail to follow up these proceedings and the local populace is therefore non the wiser as to who committed the crime.
