THE Tories now have 10 councillors in Tameside after snatching two seats from Labour.

Conservative Dorothy Cartwright took Dukinfield/Stalybridge with a conclusive majority of 266 votes, while Clive Patrick edged it in Stalybridge North with a narrow margin of 44.

"St Peter's is one of the most impoverished wards in Tameside and residents have been saying to me 'What kind of party turns its' back on the people who are its' most loyal supporters?' the answer to that is, '' the ones who keep filling there own pockets, while the rest of us suffer''. and once again tameside voters voted in the deep pocket brigade.

"That shower" the BNP are a perfectly legitimate, legally sound, decent and honest party with an incredibly bad press. Why can't people stop believing everything they read about them and try reading their policies instead? See whether you agree or disagree with them. 'That shower' running the country are the ones that deserve the slagging off they regularly get.

How much influence did the congestion charge have on the votes? I know my whole family voted for candidates who were against it - we were probably not the only ones.

When you put it like that, I think it is good that the shower that is the BNP did not get in.

It is such a shame that the Tories failed to get Audenshaw and St. Michael's.

A little analysis of the Tameside Local election results, leads to some interesting conclusions: Of the 19 new councillors elected only 5 had over 50% of the votes cast, that is in 14 wards the electors would have preferred someone else. Labour candidates received 42% of the votes cast and 16 new labour councillors were elected. Conservative candidates received 37% of the votes cast and 2 new conservative councillors were elected. BNP candidates received 10% of the votes cast and no BNP candidates were elected. Is there something strange about our democracy?
