7/ 5/2008

A COUNCILLOR has finally signed up for a criminal record check — a year after it was introduced.

Stalybridge South councillor David Buckley faced sanctions for neglecting to put himself forward for police checks after he was voted in last year.

In that case, I would like the findings of the CRB checks published and make publically available over the internet and the same goes for councillors interests. Just what have they got to hide?

High Peak Borough Council publishes councillors register of interests on the internet. I don't see why Tameside can't either.

Never mind these checks being voluntary .... THEY SHOULD BE MANDATORY !!!!!

As for the comments made by Doreen Dickinson .....DOES SHE REALLY KNOW WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT ??????

AN ENHANCED CRB CHECK COVERS MORE THAN 5 YEARS OF A PERSONS HISTORY ...... IF SHE WERE TO READ THE FORM CORRECTLY ... SHE WOULD SEE THAT ONE THE FIRST PAGE IT REQUESTS ADDRESS DETAILS FOR THE PREVIOUS 5 YEARS ....... I DEAL WITH THESE FORMS AS PART OF MY WORK AND I CAN ASSURE HER THAT THE CHECKS COVER MUCH MUCH MORE THAN 5 YEARS !!!! SO GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT DOREEN !!!!!! .... who knows... if you did you may even represent your constituents better !!!

The Council has a duty to all who live in Tameside to ensure that whoever holds these positions of trust and power as Councillors is beyond reproach !!! so come on Tameside .... MAKE THESE CHECKS MANDATORY !!!!! or are some Council members too scared of the outcome of such a check ???, if they have nothing to hide, what is the problem ??????

But there are plenty of councillors in that chamber who have done questionable things.

That stuff over Peter Wright was dragged out far too long in the press and was very boring.
