The old saying 'pride before a fall' rings out loud....but not as loud as Roy Oldhams self appraising comments!

Just what intelligence Sean Parker-Perry shows to evaluate anything is beyond me.

Gerry, Mottram - I couldn't have put it better myself, well said. Incidently, this is the same councillor Oldham that fought against the closure of the Woodhead line, claiming at the time 'What is the sense of constructing a motorway when a modern railway links two industrial centres 30 miles apart, and replacing that with something that will destroy the environment and cost huge amounts of capital?', taken from the Wikipedia about him.

As a labour voter I find this action of Councillor Oldham truly ridiculas, at the end of the day who does he think he is? He is payed to do a job like the rest of us, it isnt as if he has donated his 40 years service He has chosen to stay in politics as a labour councilor in a VERY SAFE labour ward!

Once again we have an example of our egotistical and delusional councillor riding roughshod over the feeling of local people, in his pursuit of a 'legacy'. How on earth can he purport to have any sembance of feeling or understanding for our local heritage, when he is ruthlessly pursuing the Bypass which will permanently tear the heart out of our beautiful area? He purports to be acting in the 'interests' of the"vast majority" of local people in doing this - despite EVERY poll over the past few years coming out against it. The latest one, run by The Advertiser, is currently showing a massive 91% against this ill thought out scheme. Even the Highways Agency's own figures show a clear majority opposed to this monstrosity. Mr. Oldham has consistently used our funds to publicise his 'spin' on the subject, but still can't get a consensus in his favour. He dismisses, out of hand, any other solutions, such as an HGV ban/the re-opening of the Woodhead rail link, (for which Translink have put £159 Million 'on the table'), airily commenting that "he has looked at them and they won't work". He even has one of his cronies going to print recently, dismissing the Translink offer as being unworkable, as, he 'knows' this because - wait for it - he used to be a train driver!! These are the kind of people that are trying to ruin our area, led by Oldham, whose only quest is the furtherance of his bid for a larger 'empire' filled with Industrial Estates, Distribution Depots, more housing on green belt and the inherrent influx of immigrant labour to service it all. So, this latest example of this man's sheer arrogance should come as no real surpise to us. He is merely acting as his leaders at national level have done over these past ten years, in a self-serving manner, with no regard for the wishes of the people. The sooner he goes, the better!

Roger, Mottram - the story didn't come in until after the Advertiser's deadline, so we decided to publish it straight onto the website rather than making everyone wait for a week! As far as I know it will still appear in next week's paper.

We are coming to the end of this old desperate man`s to make a point. His own rating in Tameside has always been a joke because of his maintained antics over years. So let an old man with no future have his last fling.

Can someone explain why this story isn't printed in the latest edition delivered to residents in Tameside? I'd have thought it was worth of the front page!

Just when will Uncle Roy get it all over and done with and retire for the benefit of the residents of Tameside.

So again we face hikes in our council tax this year and the next and we are paying £54k for these tacky bronze plaques which are to go across 18 places across the borough. Comic Sans Serif is used by primary school children, not on plaques which commemorate historic references.

We see vital services being taken away from our residents such as the care worker for the blind and then we are given smaller bins (has anyone noticed their bin shrink?), I know my street has.

I am not the sad person here, it is Roy Oldham the parasite of council tax payers in Tameside. Perhaps someone should get a file and rub out his name? and lets see who will be bothered then.

To be fair, the Municipal Journal (MJ) are dishing out awards left, right and centre... Derbyshire won the Transforming Public Services Achievement of the Year (2007) http://www.publictechnology.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=10251 and what does "Best Achieving Council" really mean? Sounds like an award you'd give to someone who's dragged themselves up from the bottom of the remedial class. It looks like Fenland District Council won this award too (http://www.idea.gov.uk/idk/core/page.do?pageId=6257857) but at least they're up front about it being because they were judged as poor performers in the past, not bigging themselves up and ego-spinning like Tameside.

What a self-important pompous man Roy Oldham really is. Now lets think what great historical deeds his council have been responsible for??

IKEA - Nuff said Flats, flats and more flats (sorry "apartments") built on every green space available. The laughable "patrol wardens" who have no powers of arrest

Thats just three I can think of. Yes Mr Oldham you will go down in history but not how you would like to be remembered.

So to object to your ego make me a sad person. You Mr Oldahm are an egocentric power crazed fool. If tameside had any eduacted people standing for office instead of the hand pick jellyfish you and your part choose then maybe some good would come to Tameside. Instead tamesiders have idiots whofollow like sheep the damaging policies such as a congestion charge for Ashton. Considering Ashton basically on a major route to Yorkshire is important. Bye Bye all that traffic which helps the local buisnesses. Yoes Mr Oldham they are all going to bypass ashton and go other routes. Tameside has been struggling with crass policies and crass ideas like this... Yes the closing of Denton market is another crass Tameside Idea. Oh yes.its to force pople into Ashton so they have to pay the congestion Charge. Yep well done Mr Oldham .. but your cover is blown.. What will have done next .. a gallery fullof portraits of famous influential people of England... I can see your portrait in there now.. with the comment . well it was a bit of fun.. but it cost 3,000 .. You should be ashaed Mr Oldam to call people sad .. especially when that 3000 could have helped a lot of elderly people..

I said in an earlier post that Oldham was on an ego trip. This man has done nothing for tameside. He believes he has the knowlegde to lead an inquiry into Tameside Hospital. Thats a farce I have asked befor does he have a degree on the medical or any field. Now we have this... was a farce.. He should be forced to pay,out of his own pocket, for a new etching without his name on it a. He has done nothing noteworthy.
