Cement goes up in smoke

Eve Dugdale
5/10/2007

TWENTY tonnes of cement went up in smoke during a lorry fire on Wednesday.

A wagon driver had steered his vehicle to the side of Manchester Road, Denton at 12.30pm after suffering a blow out.

He went to find a phone box to contact his employer but when he returned he found the vehicle on fire. The friction from the wheel rim sparked the blaze.

Seventy per cent of the trailer and the 20 tonnes of cement he was carrying were destroyed.
