She’ll be in our hearts forever

A SIMPLE burial ceremony for 18-month-old Noor Taswar, tragically killed in a road accident, takes place in Pakistan onThursday.

The tot died instantly when her pushchair fell off the pavement and rolled in front of a recycling lorry.

A traditional funeral was held at the Katherine Street mosque in Ashton on Tuesday before family members escorted Noor’s body on a flight on Wednesday.

Noor was with her mum Shamilla, 30, when the accident happened on Newmarket Road, Ashton on Monday afternoon.

They had been to pick up Noor’s four-year-old brother, Hassan Ali, from nearby Waterloo Nursery and were walking back to the family home in Furness Avenue.

Hassan was helping to push the trolley home but suddenly turned and ran back along the pavement.

Shamilla instinctively tried to catch hold of him but as she did so, the buggy toppled off the kerb and was crushed underneath the wheels of the 30-ton truck.

Grandad Doste Mohammad, 61, of Mossley Road, Ashton said: "It is tragic for the whole family and we are all extremely upset.

"My daughter (Shamilla) is in a terrible state. It happened so suddenly and we are completely devastated.

"Noor was a beautiful girl, so charming and lovely, a proper little lady. "She lit up the room and the whole house when she visited.

"If Hassan was ever mischievous, climbing on the table and suchlike, she would tell him in a sensible voice to get down.

"Honestly, sometimes you would think he was the tot and she was the four year old!

"She will be in our heart for the rest of our lives.

"It is an awful time for us but the support from friends has been fantastic. My son-in-law Taswar has flown to Pakistan to sort everything out. In the meantime everyone has rallied round.I just pray it never happens to another family."

No one else was injured, but the HGV driver, from wood recycling firm Hadfield and Son of Droylsden, was also taken to hospital suffering from shock.

Witness Jennifer Blundell, of Newmarket Road, said: "I had just arrived home. I suddenly heard screams and ran back outside. It was terrible. A neighbour phoned 999 and emergency crews arrived in minutes but she just had no chance. The lorry driver wasn’t going fast — there was nothing he could do. It’s so tragic and upsetting."

Lesley Ironmonger, headteacher at Waterloo, said: "As well as being Hassan’s sister, Noor was related to a number of our other pupils.

"The school will make available support as is necessary for all those touched by this sad event.

"We extend our condolences to the family."

The road was closed for several hours while accident investigators examined the scene.

Any witnesses are urged to call the traffic unit on 856 8809.
