Priest attacker charged

A 24-YEAR-old man has been charged after a priest was assaulted at his home in Ashton.
Stephen Hinchcliffe, of Gambrel Bank Road, Ashton, has been charged with burglary, section 47 assault and possession of a shotgun cartridge.
Father Francis Wadsworth, of St Ann’s RC Church, had just returned from visiting one of his parishioners in hospital when he was attacked.
It is alleged the 37-year-old priest was assaulted during a burglary at his home on Burlington Street at 7pm on 26 November.
Hinchcliffe appeared before Tameside magistrates on Saturday.
