Teenager, 18, dies in Mway tragedy

TRIBUTE has been paid by the family of a teenager who died in a motorway smash on Friday.

Gareth Liam Adshead (pictured), 18, of Fir Tree Lane, Dukinfield died after his Renault Clio collided with a lamppost near to junction 24 on the M60 clockwise at Denton.

Gareth’s father Craig said on behalf of the family: "Gareth was a wonderful, loving son who was a keen and very capable sportsman, excelling at the many sports he undertook.

"Gareth played for the Crumpsall Coyotes Roller Hockey Team in the North West region. He was also in the 1st eleven for Stalybridge St John’s Cricket Team.

"He played field hockey for Tameside and was goalkeeper for Dukinfield Junior Football Club for many years.

""Gareth had recently left college and having qualified as a joiner and carpenter was thrilled to have obtained employment with Crown Bedrooms in Denton.

"Gareth was a very popular lad and would help anybody he could. He was always busy with his friends.

"We will miss him and his cheeky smile dearly. He will always be in our thoughts and we are sure his friends and sporting colleagues will always remember him."

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision that happened just after the access slip road shortly after 6pm.

The motorway was closed between junctions 24 and 25 for six hours following the collision.
