Farewell to Legion fund-raiser Arthur

FAMILY and friends gathered on Friday to say goodbye to Arthur Peacher, MBE.
Arthur, who was awarded the Queen’s honour in 2000 for his services to the community, died earlier this month at his Broadbottom home at the age of 91.
A war veteran who served for four years in Burma, he had devoted more than half-a-century to fund-raising for numerous charities including the Poppy Appeal, Glossop Meals on Wheels and Willow Wood Hospice in Ashton.
Among the mourners were soldiers from the Royal British Legion who marched before the coffin carrying standards.
The Rev Philip Burrows, who led the service at Broadbottom’s St Mary Magdalene Church, said: "Arthur was a faithful member of the church and was so involved in the community, it was a proper thanksgiving service for all he had done and who he was.
"It was a fitting celebration of a great guy and it was just lovely that there were so many people there."
