Teen hands himself in after assault

12/ 2/2008

A 17-YEAR-old boy handed himself into police after an assault in Droylsden that left a 26-year-old in a critical condition.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, and has been bailed until Tuesday 11 March, pending further inquiries.

The victim, named locally as David Burns, was punched in the face at the junction of Malvern Avenue and Langfield Crescent at about 8.30pm on Sunday night, after he went outside to investigate whether a group of teenagers were causing problems.

The punch caused him to fall over and bang his head. He has since been receiving treatment in hospital for a head injury, and his condition is now described as stable.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call Tameside CID on 0161 856 9252 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

First the poor bloke who had his family terrorised last week for his car and now this?

What the hells going on in Droylsden? And what do the police propose to do about it? Turn up hours after the event, dis-interested and only there to take a statement and give out a crime number probably? Surely not?!

I live round the corner from where this poor bloke got attacked and whilst its not the nicest place in the world its pretty hard to swallow something like this going on.

My sympathies and prayers to both him and his family during this difficult time.
