PRIZE: Willow Wood’s John Fellowes with the crystal trophy
Who is your hero of the year?
20/ 2/2008
THE Advertiser is once again looking to find Tameside’s Hero of the Year.
We’ve teamed up with Willow Wood Hospice and New Charter housing association in the hunt to find a worthy recipient of the title for 2008.
It could be someone who’s devoted their life to caring for others, a stalwart charity worker or someone who puts others before themselves. They could be a community campaigner, a carer or even a lifesaver.
We want you to tell us their special story and why they deserve the title Hero of the Year. Last year’s winner was Belinda Jeffery, who set up the central residents’ group in Dukinfield and is currently its secretary.
John Fellowes, fund-raising manager at Willow Wood Hospice, said: "This is a chance to recognise someone who gives their all for the community."
Readers can nominate anyone they feel deserves the title — of any age — by writing to us here at the Advertiser office at 35-37 Booth Street, Ashton, OL6 7LB.
In no more than 250 words tell us why the person you have picked should win the award. Don’t forget to include your name and address along with the contact details for the person you are nominating.
There will be a shortlist of three picked and the winner will be announced at a special awards lunch to be held at the Village Hotel in Hyde on Thursday, 24 April. The hotel is sponsoring the event by providing the meal.
Tickets priced £10 will available from the appeals office at Willow Wood on 0161 330 7788.
Keep an eye out for more information about the event in the Advertiser, including details of the fantastic prizes the winners will receive. The closing date for entries is Wednesday, 26 March.
