Top cop goes back to pounding the streets

WILLOW Wood wanderers had better be on their best behaviour this year.

Because Tameside’s top cop, Chief Superintendent Zoe Hamilton, has signed up to take part in the 10k fund-raising walk.

The all-female event, which takes place on Friday, 27 June this year, raised £118,500 last year and already nearly 1,000 ladies have signed up for this year’s Midnight Wander.

And the borough’s first-ever female Chief Supt is only too keen to lead the way.

"It’s a very worthwhile event because Willow Wood Hospice does so much for the people of Tameside," she said. "I’ve done a few sponsored walks in the past but I’ve not done anything for a while though! I don’t know anyone who’s been in Willow Wood Hospice, but quite a few of my friends have had relatives stay there as well as quite a few people from work."

Chief Supt Hamilton has signed up some of her colleagues and friends as well.  "I’m trying to get some more involved. An awful lot are sponsoring me," she added.

Appeals manager at the hospice, John Fellowes congratulated the Chief Supt.

He said: "We are delighted that such a prominent lady within Tameside has chosen to take part. I’m sure her years pounding the beat will come in very useful on the night."

He warned that places are being filled quickly so anyone who wants to take part should send in their application form as soon as possible. Log on to www.willowwood.info/wander  or phone 330 7788 for more information.
