Cheeky Alex has last laugh on TV

PINT-sized comic Alex Lees proved he had guts as well as talent... by poking fun at TV’s Mr Nasty — Simon Cowell — in front of the cameras.

Viewers of Britain’s Got Talent saw the confident eight year old mocking the multi-millionaire music mogul during an audition on the hit Saturday night show.

The youngster from Chapel Street, Dukinfield was buzzed out by the judges after they decided he didn’t cut it as a mini Robbie Williams.

But they were so impressed by his stage presence during auditions in Blackpool that they suggested he come back and have another shot as a stand-up comedian.

Confident

Cowell told Alex: "Let me give you the good news Alex. You are probably one of the most confident people I have ever met in my life. But now the not so good news — you can’t sing very well."

The audience roared with laughter as Alex harrumphed at the suggestion.

Fellow judges Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan encouraged Cowell to let him return and perform a funnyman act.

When Alex came back he popped on a pair of sunglasses and pretended the glare of Simon’s teeth was blinding him — before letting fly with a string of home-made jokes and impressions.

And his cheeky-chappie routine was enough to scoop a place in the next round as all three judges gave him the thumbs-up.

Mum Kathy said Alex was "quite nervous" until he actually went in for his audition.

"We were being interviewed in front of camera and he came alive," she said.

Alex was featured in the Advertiser last year after grabbing top spot in the Junior Starquest competition at Pontins. He scooped a week away for his whole family at the camp in Prestatyn.
