Football legend was a big draw

OUR national team won’t be playing in Europe this year but we only need to step out of our front doors to see some fantastic international football right here in Tameside.
That was according to Sir Trevor Brooking, who was at Curzon Ashton FC on Monday.
The England star and football pundit joined Manchester City and England international Micah Richards at the draw for the 2008 European Learning Disability football championship.
He said: "I have to confess I’ve worked with people with learning disabilities all my life and I didn’t even know there was a learning disabled football team. To have this opportunity to be involved is fantastic, I hope this is the beginning of a long and loving relationship.
"Through the FA, in my football development role, I’ve got very much involved in learning disabled football and having these venues to play at is really important."
England were beaten two–nil in a friendly against Holland on Sunday at Curzon and the first match in the championship will be England v France at Sport City on 20 July.
Matches are taking place in Ashton, Hyde and Stalybridge, among other venues and prices start at £1. For more information log on to www.thefa.com
