Babies' skeletons found

THE remains of two babies have been found in a box at a house in Audenshaw.

It is understood the gruesome discovery was made by a relative clearing out the home of an elderly woman who had recently died.

Police are investigating and a post mortem examination was being held today. The bones are said to be of a `considerable age.'

One theory is that the occupant of the house in Rowcon Close in Audenshaw could have been hiding a tragic secret for years. The relative is thought to have found the box while clearing out the house.

The box contained two further boxes - each holding one set of remains.

Forensic scientists are to examine the bones but, due to their age and condition, the cause of death may be difficult to establish. DNA tests will also be carried out on the remains.

A police spokesman said they were called to the house `following reports that human bodies had been found'.

The spokesman said: "Police found what is believed to be the remains of two babies that had been at the address for some time. A post mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death."
