Two sentenced for attack on gran

TWO men have been sentenced for dragging a grandmother to the floor and stealing her handbag.

Troy Coutts and Anthony Keeling, both 19, were given 15 months and 18 months in a young offenders’ institute at Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday. They had both earlier admitted robbery.

The court heard how the pair sneaked up on the 60 year old on Clarendon Street in Hyde one evening in December last year.

Pulling their hoods over their faces as a disguise, they grabbed her handbag. She tumbled to the ground, hurting her leg and side.

They then fled to Coutt’s house on Market Street, leaving their traumatised victim helpless on the ground.

Keeling, of Broadbent Avenue, Ashton, was caught on CCTV throwing the handbag in the bin in the back garden after the pair helped themselves to its contents.

Pc Karl Riley said: “I’m pleased that these two have got their just desserts. They probably saw the victim as an easy target and thought they could get away with robbing her.

“I hope today’s result sends out a clear message that these types of crimes will not be tolerated and will be investigated robustly.

“We are determined to make our streets safer and will endeavour to catch and convict criminals like Coutts and Keeling.”
