Babies' bodies autopsy inconclusive

19/ 5/2008

DETECTIVES say an autopsy on the babies’ bones found at a house on Rowcon Close, Audenshaw was inconclusive.

The skeletal remains were discovered by Luicia Grime in the maisonette she shared with her 77-year-old mum Margaret Guarino until the OAP’s death two years ago.

Ms Grime called police after stumbling across the badly-decomposed bodies hidden in toy boxes on top of a wardrobe.

The post-mortem took place on Thursday at Pendlebury children’s hospital.

The bones were measured and the babies were believed to have been around 37 to 39 weeks old when they died, so almost full term.

It is thought the babies were twins as it would be unusual for two babies born at separate times to be the same size.

The femurs from the remains of both babies have been sent off for DNA testing. But the results are not expected for at least three months.

DI Derek Weaver, of Ashton CID, said: "The skeletons were intact so the most likely theory is that they were stillborn. No bones were broken so we feel confident we are not looking at a murder or anything similar.
"We are awaiting the coroner’s clearance and the bodies can be released for burial."
