The 19 year old said he was pleased to scoop the top spot for which he receives a commemmorative plaque and sports bag from the Advertiser.

Luke, of Swindells Street, Hyde started running at the age of nine and is a member of Sale Harriers.

The teenager, who works at Morrisons, said: "I’ve taken part for four years now and although it’s different to cross country running, there’s more of an atmosphere.

"I didn’t really think about my time so to be fastest in Tameside is pretty good!"

Suzanne Aylett was Tameside’s fastest female. She completed the race in 43 minutes and 51 seconds and also receives a commemorative plaque.
