Gang of thugs do this to former soldier

9/ 7/2008

AN EX-SOLDIER was beaten up by yobs — just days after speaking out about anti-social behaviour on his estate.

Nigel Walker hit the Advertiser headlines last month, claiming gangs of youths congregating outside his home had made him too scared to leave the house.

Days later he was left for dead after being attacked by a gang of thugs yards from his front door.

The 45 year old, of Stanhope Close, Denton was forced to the floor and beaten, fracturing his eye socket and cheekbone and suffering bruising to the rest of his body.

"I never normally leave the house in the evenings but I needed milk so I went to the corner shop. I was on my way back when I felt a smack to the back of the head and I fell to the floor," he said. "I was covering myself up as best I could — I tried to get up once and that’s when I got hit in the face. I’d say there was about eight to 10 of them kicking me — they were like wild animals."

Nigel, who served in the army for six years, says two neighbours have moved to escape the troublemakers who threaten residents, vandalise property and have even defecated in people’s gardens. He has slammed his attackers and says it’s time for people to stand up and reclaim their community.

"I just want to be left alone but I refuse to move," he added. "Instead of people being afraid and staying in their homes they need to stand up to these people and show they’re not prepared to have a gang of thugs ruling the streets."

Police are appealing for information about the attack which happened at around 9.20pm on Thursday, 26 June. Call 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, free and in confidence, on 0800 555111.

Shame on those yobs, you have fought for freedom for your country, and here you are almost a prisoner in your own home.........SHAME ON THEM FOR WHAT THEY DID TO YOU AND YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY.
