Tribute to biker killed in crash

A FAMILY has paid tribute to a grandad who died after his motorbike crashed during a police chase.
Alan Long, 54, was rushed to hospital when his bike collided with a car in Stalybridge on Friday night. Police had signalled for Mr Long to pull over in Whittle Street, Denton at about 11pm.
But he failed to stop and they set off in pursuit, supported by the force helicopter.
But the chase came to a tragic conclusion when he collided with a black VW Polo at the junction of Stamford Street and Rassbottom Street in Stalybridge about 50 minutes later. Officers found the biker seriously injured at the scene shortly before midnight.
The 18-year-old driver of the Polo suffered minor whiplash injuries in the incident.
Mr Long was taken to Tameside Hospital suffering from a suspected broken pelvis. However, his condition worsened and he died in the early hours.
His wife Julie said: "Alan was a man who lived life to the full. He was a loving husband, a father of five with 13 grandchildren. He had a passion for motorcycles and will be missed a great deal by all his family and friends."
More than a dozen floral tributes have been left at the scene of the accident, close to West Hill School, including emotional messages from the victim’s family.
A tribute from Mrs Long read: ‘What a waste of a good man, husband and grandfather’.
A message from his daughters stated: ‘You're an idiot! What have we told you about that bike! Can't believe you're gone.’
