Cricket match is community boost

INDIA and Pakistan cricket teams will be going head to head on Sunday... in Ashton!

Vijesh Patel originally organised the game between the two Asian communities for his friends but as interest grew he decided to roll out the event and raise money for charity.

He said: “We have decided that every player will pay to play and the winning team will receive all money for their chosen charity. A collection will also take place during the game along with a raffle and barbecue.

“India and Pakistan are great rivals in world cricket and with all the trouble the two countries have had in the past this should be a great day for the two communities to mix and join together to raise money for charity. The Pakistan team have chosen their local mosque as their charity and we (Indians) have chosen Tameside General Hospital as our charity.”

The game will take place at Ashton Cricket Club on Sunday from 1pm. Everyone is invited.
