Teacher, 33, goes missing in French Alps

A SCHOOLTEACHER from Stalybridge has gone missing while hiking in the French Alps.
Christopher Hilton, 33, went missing from the south-eastern town of Bourg d’Oisans, near Grenoble on 27 July and has not been seen since.
Fears are mounting after a trained search party failed to find him, despite help from a helicopter scouring the most popular walking routes from above.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "A British national was reported missing on 27 July after going out walking. The authorities have launched a search.Teams have gone out on foot assisted by a helicopter from above but he is yet to be located."
Although a popular winter resort, Bourg d’Oisans is busy throughout the summer months with climbers and people who enjoy the outdoors.
It is known as a cycling Mecca among enthusiasts and played host to the Tour de France for the 19th time just three days before Mr Hilton went missing.
No further details were available as the Advertiser went to press.
