Public house is venue for Save PO meeting
by Eve Dugdale27/ 8/2008
RESIDENTS are being urged to go down the pub to help save Broadoak Road post office.
Councillor Richard Ambler, who represents the Hurst ward, has set up a public consultation meeting at the Broadoak Hotel pub, Broadoak Road, Ashton, at 7pm on Wednesday (3 September).
"I have been in contact with the Post Office and they have promised to do their best to attend this meeting and explain their position. Having lost the facility on St Albans Avenue and Henrietta Street it is vital this post office remains open to serve local businesses and residents," he said.
David Heyes MP will also be attending the meeting. He has branded the Post Office’s proposal to close the branch as ‘ludicrous‘,
Despite official consultations only beginning on Wednesday the Ashton MP has already received hundreds of responses from people supporting his campaign to keep the post office open.
He said: "It is clear from what people have told us that this is a very busy post office, offering an excellent range of services and very much valued by people in the Broadoak area and beyond. Post Office Limited have made a huge mistake in proposing to close this Post Office. It is also important to note that although this meeting is in early September, the consultation runs until 7 October, so people still have time to sign the petition, or better still send us a letter to support the campaign."
The petition, supported by all parties, is available in the Broadoak Hotel as well as shops next to the post office.
