BOXER Ricky Hatton is setting up his own clothing company — inspired by his hero Del Boy Trotter.
The Hitman is to bring out a range of boxing equipment and leisure wear by Christmas.
He has teamed up with Bury-based firm Sportax to found Hatton Independent Trading Ltd, in tribute to Del Boy’s market trading company Trotter’s Independent Trading.
Ricky, 29, from Hyde, is a well-known fan of TV’s Only Fools and Horses and owns one of only 11 Reliant Robins used in the series.
His dad Ray said: "Ricky wants the brand to represent not only style and performance but also for quality and value for money."
Ricky is a keen supporter of grass-roots boxing programmes and hope his new company will help him continue to support youngsters via sponsorship agreements with upcoming British stars.
He wants to play a very active role in the company and is due to make the final decisions on the first products at the end of this month. The first products are likely to be technical equipment including gloves and pads. They are also planning a range of `boxercise equipment and a range of casual sportswear. He hopes the company will provide him with a way to stay involved with boxing after he retires.
John Peavoy from Sportax said: "This is a really exciting time for us as we don’t just partner with anyone, there has to be real potential to build a brand and with Hatton we have got that."
