Armed robbers strike at pub

MASKED men threatened staff with crowbars during a robbery at a pub in Droylsden.

Detectives are appealing for any information about the attack, which happened at the Gardener's Arms pub on Edge Lane at about 2.40am on Monday.

Four men burst through a side door into the pub after it had closed for the night.

The landlady and two members of bar staff were threatened by the robbers, who forced them all to lie on the floor.

The landlady was then ordered to open a safe.

The offenders took a substantial quantity of cash from the safe and from tills behind the bar.

As they left they snatched a gold chain from round the neck of a barman and stole the landlady's purse and car, which was parked outside the pub.

The car, a Peugeot 307, was found during the early hours of Tuesday in Clayton.

The only descriptions of the offenders is that they were wearing tracksuits and they were all wearing balaclavas or scarves round their faces.

Detective Constable Darren Byrne, based at Ashton CID, said: "Although no-one was injured in this incident, these four men were brandishing weapons and the staff were clearly frightened and had no idea whether it would be used or not.

"I would appeal to anyone who has information about who is responsible, or who may have witnessed these men going into or fleeing the pub, to come forward."
