Doggone it! Lucy hopes to be top dog

LUCY the lovable mongrel is right at home with her young owner Oliver.
But two years ago it was a different story. She was found in a horrific state, suffering with a broken leg and extensive scalding on her back, at a house in Moston by RSPCA officers who forced their way into the property.
Lucy and another animal were rescued, but her cruel suffering had made her so timid it was weeks before she could even bark.
But now she has been adopted by the Wilson-Astbury family in Stalybridge and is one of three rescue dogs from across the region whose happy endings have placed them in the running to become the RSPCA’s Dog of the Year.
Oliver’s mum Stephanie, of Carrbrook Crescent, Carrbrook said: "She is such a loveable dog now. At first, she was just an extremely quiet and stressed dog and didn’t know what to do with herself.
"Now she is fantastic, she’s just not the same dog."
Ten dogs are in the running in the North West heat of the competition. The winner will then compete against dogs from other UK regions for the national prize. To vote go to rspca.org.uk/doty.
