RECYCLING message: Dorothy
Wizard way to recycle

IF you want to know how best to recyle your aluminium cans, ask the Tin Man.
Or the Straw Man, or the Lion, or Dorothy ... or even the Wicked Witch of the Waste!
Tameside Council has hit upon a magical way of promoting the recycling message with characters from the Wizard of Oz.
The Wicked Witch of the Waste is made from plastic cartons and bottles, The Tin Man from aluminium cans, and the Scarecrow is a cardboard creation.
Dorothy is made of bottles and jars and the cowardly Lion is made from textiles.
The works of art have been on the yellow brick road this summer, touring schools and community events and the Tameside Horticultural Show.
Councillor Catherine Piddington said: "Each year we try to come up with a new and innovative idea for our recycling campaigns. This year we have taken these popular characters. I’m sure they will appeal to young and old alike and they will help us in getting over our message about reducing waste and recycling."
Tameside Council hopes the effigies will highlight attempts to boost recycling in the borough.
