Pensioner fights off would-be robber
Adam Derbyshire31/10/2008
A PLUCKY pensioner fought off a would-be robber by belting him with her walking stick.
The 72-year-old was walking down an alleyway off Lodge Close in Dukinfield at 10.30am on Wednesday when she was confronted by the teenage mugger.
He threatened and swore at the victim, saying, 'Give me your bag, you old cow'.
The woman hit the offender with her walking stick, forcing the cowardly thief to run off towards Ellesmere Road.
He was white, around 15 years old and 5ft 4in tall. He was wearing a dark hooded jumper with a blue trim and black tracksuit bottoms with white stripes.
PC Karen Mather, of Ashton police, said: "Anyone prepared to threaten a lone elderly woman is nothing short of a coward.
"I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and speak to police."
Witnesses are asked to call Ashton Volume Crime Unit on 0161 856 9260, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
