Throat slashed by a stranger

A TEENAGER told how he thought he would die after his throat was slashed by a stranger with a craft knife.
Doctors told the 16 year old the blade had missed his jugular by half-an-inch.
The victim had walked his girlfriend to the bus stop and was making his way home through Stanhope Park off Haughton Street, Audenshaw when he was confronted by a man on a mountain bike who accused the boy of staring at him.
There was a brief argument and the man lashed out with a blade.
The schoolboy was left with a large slash wound to his neck and staggered back to his mother’s house for help.
He said: "I thought I’d been punched at first. But when I felt my neck I realised it was pouring with blood. I thought I was going to die."
He was taken to hospital, where he was treated with 16 stitches.
His attacker was white, 30, 5ft 9ins tall. He was wearing a black hat, black jacket, trousers and trainers. He had a strong local accent and was riding a silver mountain bike.
DC Jason Pickles, of Ashton CID, said: "This was a totally motiveless attack. This offender needs to be caught as he is clearly dangerous and was ready and willing to carry out a violent attack for no apparent reason. To slash someone’s throat like that was extreme and could have ended in tragedy. I’m appealing to anyone who may know who did this."
Anyone with any information about the attack on Friday, 14 November at 10.30pm should call police on 856 9254.
