Arsonists target family
3/12/2008
A MUM and her five children have been targeted by arsonists who dragged a wheelie bin against their front door and deliberately set it ablaze.
The incident occurred at 5am while the 39-year-old woman and her children, all aged between 12 and 17 were asleep.
One of the boys was awoken by the dog barking and saw flames coming from the door. He ran to wake his mum who called firefighters.
The blaze in Waterton Lane, Mossley, caused severe damage to the door, but luckily no-one was injured.
Detective Constable Darren Byrne, of Tameside police, said: "It is lucky the young boy was woken up by the family dog barking, otherwise he might not have seen the flames and had time to alert his family. If he hadn’t, we could have been dealing with a number of fatalities. The mindless vandal who caused this damage must have known their actions could lead to tragic consequences, but decided to do it anyway, so they are clearly someone who needs to be found. I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward."
Anyone with information about the incident on Wednesday, November 26 should call police on 856 9255.
