A MUM and her two-year-old daughter have lost their fight to stay in the country.
Rose Jane Njoki Wanjohi, 43, and Natale were put on a plane at Heathrow and deported to the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
The move comes despite dozens of friends in Greater Manchester campaigning for a last minute reprieve.
Last week, Jane and Natale were told that their deportation had been halted pending a review – but immigration officials rejected their appeals.
Friend Richard Bushell, 78, said: “We feel very sad that our moves to keep them in the UK didn’t have any impact, but it seems we were up against a losing battle.
“We can only hope that they are able to make a decent life for themselves in Kenya and, on behalf of Rose, I’d like to say thanks to everyone who supported them.”
The teacher claimed she fled Kenya in fear of her life after her husband joined an outlawed sect. She was pregnant with Natale when she arrived in Hyde, Tameside, in December 2006 but her application for asylum was rejected earlier this year.

Land being the key word, possibly they flew, rather than walked and the filght was to the UK? Anyway the Dublin protocol means assylum applications should be judged using the same means in all EU countries, and allows for refugess to move to country within the EU where they may have family or comunity links (I think, laywers feel free to correct me on this).

Yes some immigrants come here to work - and contribute to the economy...Many of the most affluent Countries are founded on immigration...the US, Australia and to some extent the UK. However many immigrants come here as bogus "asylum seekers" to claim benefits and bleed the system dry. Unfortunately the current Government has not got to grips with immigration and has taken years to adopt an Australian style points system. Thus our crowded isle has accepted more immigrants than it or its public services can handle. Why would a genuine refugee fleeing persecution from a country many thousands of miles away first claim asylum in the UK if it werent for the benefits and "human rights implications"?? Why are you so upset at these two being deported when they have crossed numerous countries - when claiming to be in fear of their lives. If you think people are harsh - let me know your address and I will send you a bill for the amount of taxes I pay to subsidise such eco-immigrants. Hamish
Can't disagree with you that the govt have been slow off the blocks with the Aussie style points system, that however only applies to migrants coming specifically to work. It does not cover asylum seekers which are a totally different kettle of fish.
I'd say the main reason a lot of asylum seekers whether genuine or bogus come to the UK (and you hear this when they're interviewed) is because the UK is seen as a friendly country with friendly people willing to welcome the poor and needy. Where they get that impression from is beyond me however as the posters on this site elegantly prove.
The other reason is that a lot of these asylum seekers and economic migrants come from regions of the world we ruled (for ruled read robbed blind) and they see an historic connection between their and our countries.
As has been stated most if not all asylum seekers whether genuine or bogus would rather work than claim benefits but they are not permitted to. They have to claim benefits and if you've ever tried to exist on benefits I'm sure you'd agree it's not much fun.
Thanks for your blessing though, shows what a caring soul you are.

You mean the human rights implications which are exactly the same throughout the entire European continent, with the exception of Belarus?
Maybe it's because they see how thick some people are in the UK and figure it will be easy for them to offer more value than a large chunk of the existing population.

We could start with the Royal family and work allong via the house of commons and Lords and the banking system then on to professional benefit scroungers. A mass deportation of those who suck hard working people dry.
Oh yes not forgetting local council officials
Then we could invite back Ms Wanjohi who is a teacher to make a positve contibution to our society

Are you talking about one fellow human being or are you referring to the estimated 1,000,000 (yes thats right one million) illegal immigrants living in the UK and those queuing up to get in. As one who welcomes these people with open arms where do you draw the line? Stevedore, Quayside
I wouldn't, come one come all. There was a massive fuss about Polish people coming to this country "because they'll suck us dry" and what was revealed as the truth? They contributed to a net increase in this countries wealth. They did jobs none of the indiginous dolites would do, they clean our hospitals and sweep our streets, all jobs "too good" for the British.
Criminals are a different matter of course but economic migrants don't come here for benefits they come to work and they work a load harder than most Brits would ever dream of doing.
The real solution of course would be if these people didn't have to come here in the first place, if their homes had better jobs or better security. Whichever way you look at it we in the west have sucked the rest of the world dry and now we're paying for it. Either by paying more for clothes, food etc or not screwing these countries over regarding debts.
But of course, why shouldn't we have it both ways? Keep their kids in sweatshops so we can have cheap trainers but if they have the audacity to want to improve their lives then they better not try it here eh!
