Kelly is a dramatic winner!

CARING Kelly Bagnall's initiative to help pupils settle in at school has won her a top award.

Kelly, aged 16, attends the Starlight Stage and Dance School in Ashton and had the bright idea of starting up a drama group to help pupils at Hyde Technology School who were having problems making friends.

Head teacher Barry Cooke was so impressed with her work that he nominated her for a Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award.

These are given each year to secondary school students who have made outstanding contributions to their schools and communities.

Kelly, of Printers Fold, Hollingworth, said: "I thought I would extend the idea of a drama group and bring it into the school.

"I didn't think the award was that big until my foster mum Susan started crying and said how proud she was of me."

Kelly's group practised a variety of plays, from Shakespeare to Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber as well as song and dance routines.

Mr Cooke said: "Kelly has done a fantastic job and made a great contribution with the drama group, helping disaffected children at lunchtimes.

"We are very proud of her."
