It's third time lucky for Doug!

27/12/2001

THE phrase 'third time lucky' could have been coined by Doug Kelly.

After spending three years phoning the TV game show 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' and failing twice on fastest finger first, the father-of-two finally scooped £250,000.

Doug astounded viewers on the hit show. He insisted to host Chris Tarrant that he was 'not a gambling man', but the 41-year-old, from Newton, Hyde, had the audience on the edge of their seats as he put thousands of pounds at risk.

It was Doug's third appearance on the show - having spent between £3,000-£4,000 on calls - but the only time he'd made it into the hot seat.

Doug said he tried so hard to get on the show because he 'thought it would be a good investment for simply answering a few questions'.

"Well that's what I thought at the time," said Doug. "But people who win on there deserve every penny they get because it's such a nerve-racking ordeal."

Doug added he and his family won't be living the high-life.

"We'll get a bigger house, with a bigger garden, but it won't be anything extravagant, we're not Posh and Becks," he added.
