Robbery victim threatened with screwdrivers

5/ 3/2002

A 20-YEAR-old man had screwdrivers held to his throat during a night time street robbery.

The man was in High Bank Road, Droylsden in the early hours of Saturday morning, March 2, when he was set upon by two men.

The pair held the screwdrivers to the victim's throat and demanded he hand over his property - including a mobile phone and a small amount of cash.

The victim suffered minor injuries including cuts and bruising to his left eye.

Sgt John Cox, of Ashton police, said: "There would not be a lot of people about at that time.

"They've probably been looking in the area to break into cars, but this man has come along and they've thought he's an easy target.

"Did anyone hear or see anything? There may have been somebody getting dropped off nearby at the time," he added.

The incident happened around 2.45am. Anyone with information should telephone the police on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
