Girl indecently assaulted

A TEENAGE girl has been subjected to a terrifying indecent assault.

The 17-year-old girl was attacked late on Friday evening (January 3), close to the Moravian Centre in Droylsden.

Police are hoping a man walking his dog could help them catch the balaclava-clad sex attacker.

The victim had been walking along Ashton New Road, before turning into Buckley Street.

The victim was indecently assaulted on the canal bridge, after being pushed to the ground. The attacker fled when he heard the sound of a dog barking.

The victim also saw another man, in his 50s, walking a dog in the Moravian Centre, close to the scene.

Detective Sergeant Tony Hughes said: "He (the dog walker) may not have been aware that an offence was taking place but might hold valuable information that could help us to catch this man."

The attacker is described as a tanned white man, in his late 20s to early 30s, of medium to stocky build, with dark brown eyes, hairy arms and fingers, and spoke in a local accent. He wore a dark coloured zipped hooded top with a velcro pocket across the stomach, plus dark cotton trousers.

The attack happened at around 11.30pm.
