THE new year brought new life for six mums in Tameside after their special bundles of joy arrived on new year's day.
First to make an appearance at Tameside Hospital was little Ryan Louis who was determined not to miss the festivities. He arrived five weeks early at 7.08am weighing 5lb 9oz to proud mum Joanne and dad Mark Dempsey.
Luke Adam Tinney wasn't far behind, and arrived at 9.22am. Little Luke was the perfect present for first-time mum Yvonne and weighed 5lb 12oz.
Sarah Harrison's family had an extra hectic Christmas before baby Katie made her entrance - nine days late!
Katie was the first little girl of 2003 to be born in the borough at 10.21am and the heaviest at 8lb 5oz.
Shamaila Shamas gave birth just minutes later at 10.25am.
Proud grandma Shaman said the family were still deciding on a name
for the little girl who weighed in at 5lb 15oz.
Baby Simeon Cope gave everyone a surprise by arriving a week early for mum Jennie. The 7lb 12oz bundle put in an appearance late in the day at 1.40pm.
And Jasmin Begum was last to give birth to her beautiful baby girl - weighing 7lb 3oz - at 6.08pm.
Ann Bickerdyke, head of midwifery at Tameside Hospital, said of the new year arrivals: "We have had as many as 20 babies delivered in one day so six is quite a normal number.
"It is special and we always decorate the cot and buy a present for the first babies who are born on Christmas day and new year's day."
