Crash boy, 10, ‘serious’

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy suffered severe head injuries after he was involved in a serious road collision on Monday night.

Traffic officers are appealing for information after the road accident left the young boy in intensive care.

Tameside's traffic inspector, Paul Rowe, said the boy was on his bicycle on Norfolk Avenue, Denton, when he was hit by a Renault Laguna at the junction with Shirley Road.

The boy, who comes from the Denton area, was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary and later transferred to the intensive care unit at Pendlebury Children's Hospital.

Insp Rowe said: "He has a depressed skull fracture but is making very good progress as he is now conscious, off the ventilator and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening."

He added that parents should always make sure their children are playing in a safe environment and not on the roads.

"Parents need to be aware of what their children are doing and where they are playing to help keep them safe," he said.
