Drink-drive headteacher

A HEADTEACHER has admitted to driving with excess alcohol and wilfully resisting arrest.

Margaret Seddon, 49, headteacher of Manor Green Primary School in Denton, admitted driving above the limit in Glossop and wilfully resisting arrest in the incident on Sheffield Road on 8 July.

A charge of assaulting acting sergeant Steven Wycks - which Mrs Seddon, of Lincoln Way, Shirebrook Park, Glossop denied - was withdrawn.
Glossop magistrates adjourned the case for sentencing until 9 September.

Seddon's lawyer Ian Baker, said: "Our client is very relieved that the prosecution has withdrawn the allegation that she assaulted PC Wyckes in the execution of his duty. It would be inappropriate for us to comment any further until the case is finalised and we hope this will be the case at the next hearing."

A spokeswoman for Tameside Council said: "We are aware of a Tameside headteacher who is appearing in court on 9 September but feel it would be inappropriate to make any further comment until the conclusion of the case."

Last February she was fined £1,000 with £55 court costs for failing to provide a breath specimen but Tameside Magistrates were 'not persuaded' that she intended to drive away from a car park in Ashton.
