Quiz lifeline for charity star

FIREFIGHTERS will be relying on brains instead of brawn next month when they invite the public to pit their wits in a charity quiz night.

Hyde crews have organised the event to kick-start their fundraising campaign for Trevor Robertshaw, who was left wheelchair-bound after an accident at work.

The 52 year old is well known around the town for his charity work and has raised more than £6,000 for the Firefighters Benevolent Fund.

But after falling through a roof at work and sustaining serious back and head injuries, Trevor is currently in Southport spinal unit and may never walk again.

Firefighters at the Hyde station where Trevor stores his vintage fire engine have decided to try and help their fund raising friend. Teams across Tameside are being invited to take them on in the general knowledge quiz with a variety of prizes up for grabs.

A £10 ticket includes a buffet supper. Teams of four to six people can enter the quiz night which also has a licensed bar.

Trevor's twin brother Kevin said: "What we are trying to do is raise enough money for a private therapist to help Trevor get better and hopefully this will be a good way to start."

The battle of wits takes place at Hyde Fire Station on 22 November but teams must register their details before 3 November. Details on 609 1603.
