Princess Milly, the bravest tot

5/11/2003

A COURAGEOUS toddler was the centre of attention when she attended a special fund raiser to help out Manchester's sick children.

Song, dance and laughter helped raise £900 for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital after kind hearted Tamesiders dug deep at a charity event in Hattersley.

And Denton tot Milly Hamilton - who is being treated for a tumour at the hospital - was all smiles on the day when she attended the fun-packed event as guest of honour.

Milly's great-grandma, Pamela Steggles, said: "She loved every minute of it. She was dancing away all afternoon in her little fairy outfit. It was fantastic."

Pamela said the family decided to organise the event, which was held at the Hostage Pub, after two-year-old Milly was taken to hospital with a cancerous tumour in May. During her treatment the brave tot had to undergo a seven-hour operation to remove the growth which had attached itself to her forehead and nose.

After Milly's recovery the family decided they wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff at the hospital - as well as give the kids on the wards a treat.

"When we went to visit Milly and saw all the children in the hospital we wanted to do something to help them out and we also wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff for what they've done for Milly," said Pamela.

"When you see the children in there it is really heartbreaking and you don't realise how lucky you are until you see them, so we felt we had to do something to help."

Pamela, of Hattersley Road West, added that although Milly is well on the road to recovery her family are still having to keep a close eye on her as well as attend regular check-ups at the hospital.
