Canon hooks up with evil part

26/11/2003

A CANON is getting his claws into a dastardly part for the church Christmas panto.

Canon Ron Cassidy is swapping his collar for a cutlass and his cassock for a pirate's coat to take on the role of the deliciously evil Captain Hook.

Together with parishoners from St Lawrence's Church in Denton, Canon Cassidy will be stepping into the spotlight this week to perform JM Barrie's Peter Pan at Egerton Park Arts College.

Canon Cassidy said: "I'm looking forward to taking on the role as, like Captain Hook, I'm quite flamboyant in my own way and it's unusual for me to take on the role of the bad guy."

Proceeds from the show, which takes place this Friday and Saturday night, will go towards Francis House Children's Hospice and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The show runs from 7.30pm each night and tickets can be bought on the door or by phoning 320 5968 or 320 4895.
