Your letters pour in
13/ 8/2004
WE have received hundreds of your letters of support for our Save the Metro campaign and we appreciate all your comments. Please keep your letters coming and don't forget to fill in our petition forms to help us get the Metrolink back on track. Here are just a few of your comments below:
- It is a scandal for Alistair Darling to say there is no future
in light rail. He is a typical south supporter.
Shaun Lavis, Bond Street, Stalybridge
- Vital for transport for senior citizens.
E Heslop, Hope Street, Ashton
- This is an outrageous decision by the Labour government. What
about their supposed commitment to de-congestion of the roads? Why
does London get approval and we in the north don't?
Ruth Gartside, Hutton Avenue, Ashton
- A success - not another London white elephant.
Mr and Mrs McDermott, Stalyhill Drive, Stalybridge
- If so much tax payers' money can be spent on the new Parliament
building in Scotland, then it's about time more was spent on the
north west of England.
M Adshead
- I think we should break away from the south and be governed
from the north.
A Travis, Ashton
- It seems such a waste of time and money for the tram system not
to go ahead, we need it.
F Piland, Droylsden
- Does Mr Darling go round with his eyes shut, or does no other
area but London exists to him?
Mr and Mrs Hope, Denton
- Like many other Labour voters I am now considering whether to
vote Labour in the next election. Clearly our loyalty to Labour in
the North West is being abused.
R Tow, Milton Street, Mossley
- Too much has been spent to drop the project.
J Rayner, Stirling Drive, Stalybridge
- There is not enough finance to fund all the extensions to the
Metrolink, there must be one new line built.
Mr Rooke, Shaw Avenue, Hyde
- Bring on the Metro, it's better than the bus.
Mr and Mrs Jura, Boaser Court, Newton
- The Metro is an essential addition to local public
transport.
J McGrath, Astley Street, Dukinfield
- This is vital to the prosperity of Ashton, and badly
needed.
Renny Krupinski, Hawthorne Grove, Ashton
- Waste of rate-payers' money on preparation of the scheme.
Margaret Hall, Blandford Court, Stalybridge
- Countless homes have already been demolished, I think it's
disgusting.
Mrs M Green, Blandford Court, Stalybridge
- It's a disgrace that central government can't just put the
money they spend on themselves towards the Metro.
PW Jones, Firs Avenue, Ashton
- Money has already been spent and disruption to people's lives
demands continuance.
Mr K Fox, Willowwood Close, Ashton
- To Mr Blair and Mr Darling, I am aged 72 years old and have
been a Labour supporter all my life and I would hate to stop
supporting the party. Please think again about the Metro.
A Wright, Feru Bank Close, Stalybridge
- Another sickening example of north/south double
standards.
Neville Goodwin, Southway, Droylsden
