CAMPAIGNERS in Tameside are banking on people power to turn the fading Metrolink dream into reality.
Council chiefs are organising a huge rally next month and are urging locals to turn out and show their support.
They are promising a tub-thumping music and entertainment extravaganza, and have vowed to make the government sit up and take notice.
Preparations are still in the early stages, but it is believed the rally will encompass affected areas along the proposed track such as Droylsden, Audenshaw and Ashton.
The government's decision to scrap the tram extension to Tameside has been met with widespread anger and disbelief.
Scores of people are expected to attend the main protest in Ashton town centre.
Led by MP David Heyes, the rally take places on 2 September between 11am and 1pm.
