Rising pressure

27/ 8/2004

AN MP campaigning to save the Metrolink has promised 'all hell is going to break loose' when parliament reconvenes next month.

"The 28 MPs from Greater Manchester are working together to put all the pressure we can on the government," said Ashton MP David Heyes. "We are going back in parliament on 7 September and they won't know what's hit them. That week should be very interesting."

Mr Heyes is urging people to get behind the campaign and send letters of complaint direct to Prime Minister Tony Blair, Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott or Transport Secretary Alistair Darling.

"If we maintain the campaign and use that anger constructively we can salvage this and before long have the Metrolink that Tameside deserves," he added.
