Couple devastated after £1,000 stolen from reception

IT WAS a day to remember for wedding couple Angela and Aaron Fairhurst - for all the wrong reasons.

The Ashton couple couldn't have been happier after exchanging their vows surrounded by family and friends.

But as reception guests continued to party at Denton's Dance Emporium, a horrible shock was in store.

Aaron, 23, had been coaxed onto the dance floor to celebrate the day with his new wife. But on returning to his seat less than five minutes later he found his jacket had disappeared - along with £1,000 in cash. The couple had wanted money rather than gifts, to treat themselves and children, two-year-old Megan and Barydon, seven months.

Angela, 33, said: "We lived together before so we asked for money instead.

"We'd saved up all year for the wedding so we thought with the money we could treat ourselves and the kids and pay off a few of the bills. We never thought this could happen."

The theft destroyed the day for the Rowley Street, Hurst Cross couple. Even their honeymoon at Hyde's Village Hotel was ruined as the money was intended to pay for their stay.

"We had planned to stay all weekend, but we ended up just staying for the wedding night and that was spoilt," she said.

"We were both devastated and in tears.

"You just don't expect someone to take money at your wedding when you're with friends and family and people you trust.

"It was such a beautiful day up until then, but now all we have are bad memories and they won't ever go away."
