Family right on track at the gym

OUR fight the flab family have been "amazed" at their progress after an induction at the gym this week.

Mum Sandra Laidler, dad Ian, and eldest son Adrian were given a tour of the fitness suite at the Oxford Park Sports Centre, Ashton.

Mum Sandra, 45, said: "During the induction I could not even do a minute on either of the exercise bikes, but in just a few days I have already built up to doing 10 minutes."

And now the mum-of-three said that after 12 months of not being able to use the treadmill, she can now use that as well.

Sandra, of Furness Avenue, Ashton said instructors at the gym had put together individual exercise plans for them each to do.

"I was worried about what exercises to do before, but now I know what is the right exercise for me to be do," she said.

But overall it has been a week of ups and downs for the family.

It has been difficult for the family juggling their exercise commitments and healthy eating with their normal lives.

Younger son Ben has been ill and Sandra said the family's scales have "gone haywire" .

Sandra said: "When it came to our weekly weigh-in our weights changed three times in two minutes, so I just don't know what we weigh now."

However, she has managed to go down a trouser size this week and Adrian, 21, weighed himself at Ashton baths and has lost three pounds. Fitness suites are available at the majority of leisure centres in Tameside.
