Injured folk can still exercise

PEOPLE with injuries who want to exercise may benefit from a new service set up at a Tameside leisure centre.

The service at Copley Leisure Centre provides sports injury treatment and helps rehabilitate people back into exercise which can help people lose weight.

The service was introduced at Copley in Stalybridge after it was successfully set up last October at Medlock Leisure Centre, Droylsden.

Consultant rehabilitator John Flaherty is encouraging people to go down to either centre for advice.

Mr Flaherty said: "The service is for people with sciatica, arthritis and joint problems, muscular aches and pains, all sorts of sports-related injuries and spinal problems and more.

"The initial assessment is free and if treatment is advised and accepted, a full consultation and further treatment is carried out."

However, it is not available for people not under medical treatment.

He said: "A typical course of treatment would be for four to six weeks. People would also be able to enrol at the Tameside leisure centres where we are based - for the normal charge - and make use of their facilities. "

The company called Active Therapy Clinics UK is staffed by a range of practioners from physiotherapists, to oesteopaths and rehabilitators.
